Savor the flavor at ‘Taste of Sauk Valley’

DIXON – More than 14 restaurants have signed up to participate in the first “Taste of Sauk Valley,” a fundraiser for the Whiteside Area Career Center’s Creating Entrepreneurial Opportunities class.

The tasting will run from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Holloway Center at St. Patrick Church, 612 Highland Ave.

“Each year the CEO class is in charge of coming up with a class business to generate seed money for their individual businesses, which will be at the CEO trade show at the end of the year,” CEO student Cassidy Wilson said.

Among the restaurants that will be providing food are El Tapatio (nacho bar), The Factory Pub ‘n’ Grill (cheese curds, burgers), Candelight Inn (chocolate lush, power salad), Mama Cimino’s (pizza, chicken strips and Italian beef sliders), That Place on Palmyra (pulled pork, homemade chips) and The Boulevard Pub and Grill (pretzels, boneless wings).

Entertainment also is on tap.

Newman Central Catholic’s High school musical and choir will perform, as will the band Not From Concentrate, and singers and musicians Anastasia Matias, Angie Harrison and Steve Morris.

Tickets cost $20 for adults, which includes 10 tasting tickets, or $10 for ages 6 to 12, with five tasting tickets. Those younger than 5 eat free.

Tickets are available at the Career Center, 1608 Fifth Ave., the Sauk Valley Area Chamber of Commerce, 211 Locust St., both in Sterling; from Wilson at cassidykwilson@gmail.com; and at the door.
