Exploring the Business of Embrace Consignment
This morning, the CEO class had the opportunity to tour Embrace Consignment with co-owner Damon Routson. Damon shared valuable insights into the business of running a consignment shop that features both clothing and home furnishings. He spoke about important aspects of the business, including their revenue structure, the advantages and disadvantages of owning versus leasing a building space, and the unique considerations that come with the consignment model. Students received a behind-the-scenes look at the full process items go through, from the consignment counter to sorting and inventory, to being displayed on the sales floor, and finally reaching the cash register when purchased.
Embrace, located on Kinzie Avenue (Bradley Boulevard) in Bradley, is a consignment shop that specializes in clothing and home furnishings and offers a unique retail model where individuals bring in gently used items to sell, and the store earns a percentage of each sale. This type of business supports sustainability by giving pre-loved items a second life while providing affordable, stylish options for shoppers. A size-inclusive clothing selection for women, men, and children ensures all customers feel welcome and represented. In addition to fashion, the shop curates a variety of quality furniture and home décor, making it a one-stop destination for outfitting both wardrobe and home with personality and value.
As part of the visit, CEO students also had the privilege of shopping for professional clothing items, which were generously purchased through the Friends of Kankakee County CEO fund. This opportunity allowed students to begin building a wardrobe suitable for interviews, networking events, and future professional experiences.
We appreciate the interesting tour and discussion with Damon this morning and thank him for taking the time to share his business story and process with the CEO students.
