Our visit to Hogg Dairy Farm in Highland was an incredible look into the dedication, innovation, and legacy behind a local family operation.

This 4th-generation farm is currently home to just under 400 dairy cows and growing, with plans to add two more barns. We learned how their daily routine starts early, with cows being milked in the parlor twice a day at 3:00am and 3:00pm.

One of the most fascinating parts? Each cow wears an ear tag that tracks vital information, essentially acting like an Apple Watch, helping monitor health and maximize production. The herd is carefully evaluated to ensure the perfect mix of nutrients in their feed, because the right balance directly impacts milk production. Even the way feed is stored matters. The longer it sits, the better it is for digestion and nutrient absorption.

The farm also farms about 900 acres, allowing the family to grow much of their own grain and feed. And with 100 calves expected this September, the future is bright and busy.

All of the milk produced is sold daily to Prairie Farms Dairy, connecting this local operation to families across the region.
